Abhay Shankar Mishra is one of the leading exponents of Kathak dance in the UK and in the world today. A mesmerizing performer, dynamic teacher, and creative choreographer of Kathak, Abhay currently lives and works in London. Born into a family steeped in musical tradition and trained under world-renowned Gurus, namely Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, Smt Urmila Nagar Ji and late Pandit Pandey Maharaj, Abhay had the unique experience of learning all three of the major Gharanas of Kathak, i.e., Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras. He draws on his vast experience to achieve a beautiful blend of all three Gharanas in his work.

He has performed internationally in Germany, Austria, France, North Korea and in South Africa. He also performed in Madrid, Spain, Italy at the Indian High Commission - duet with a leading flamenco dancer, Anna.

Kathak Avartan was unique presentation under the artistic direction of Abhay Shankar Mishra. It showcased a kaleidoscope of golden items over past seven years along with some new refreshing items. Participated by 50 students and had coverage by Zee TV.

“Kathak Vistaar” a tour of performances involved spreading and stretching of the unique North Indian Classical dance and showing its capacity as a solo, duet and group choreography, taking to a wider audience of the UK. A successful tour accompanied with live music from high caliber musicians. It was well acclaimed by newspapers.

Performed and choreographed two dance items at prestigious Khajuraho Dance Festival.
The first a traditional Kathak recital. The second part incorporated trio based choreography on the “warrior spirit” based on the poem written by Bhushan (Yudhang) and Padmakar (Basant)2001
